Tell the person in the Senate office who answers the phone something like this: "I am a voter/constituent living in [your city and state]. I am calling to tell my senator that I’ll do my part to solve our long-term deficit problem, but the solution must include making millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share. I also insist that you: * Take cuts to Social Security off the table. It is separately funded through payroll taxes and doesn’t contribute a dime to the deficit. * Reject "Chained CPI" or any other change in how cost of living is calculated that slashes benefits. "Chained CPI" also raises taxes on working families while letting the rich off the hook. * Make no cuts to Medicare or Medicaid. I want to be clear: A cut is a cut, no matter what you call it. An inflation adjustment that reduces payments over time is a cut. An increase in the age where people qualify for benefits is a cut. Underfunded vouchers for private insurance is a cut.
