Message from Sherrod Brown
Millions of Americans rely on Medicare and Social Security to get by. These folks didn't create the deficit. They shouldn't have to be the ones sacrificing to fix it. And they certainly shouldn't have to pony up for more giveaways to the wealthy and oil companies reaping billions in profits.
Join me right now and send a powerful message to Washington: We can't force seniors and the disabled to foot the bill for this mess.
Simply put, seniors and the disabled didn’t decide to wage two wars and pass massive tax breaks for the wealthy without paying for any of it. And now that our deficits have skyrocketed, Republicans are asking seniors and the most vulnerable among us to bear the burden of closing that budget gap—not to mention funding more giveaways to millionaires and billionaires.
It is incredible, but after their reckless policies racked up monumental debt and ran the economy in the ditch, Republicans now have the gall to claim the debt limit is President Obama's problem. Unless we win this argument with a show of our strength, we'll be forced to choose between letting our nation default on its debt or making our seniors bear an unfair burden.
So now is the time to fight for Social Security and Medicare. Join me by clicking here and signing my petition.
Now is the time for us to show our strength. Now is the time for us to raise our voices. Now is the time for us to stand together and oppose the Republican plan to hand seniors and the disabled the bill for their failed policies.
Destroying Social Security and Medicare to pay for wasteful giveaways past and future would be selfish and short-sighted. But the only way Republicans will get away with it is if we let them. So join me today and send a clear message: Not this time.
Thank you for standing strong.
Sherrod
