A year ago, the Supreme Court dealt a painful blow to our democracy, opening the floodgates for unlimited corporate dollars to flow into federal elections in its 5-4 Citizens United v. FEC ruling.
What’s worse than that? We've now learned that due to conflict of interest, its possible the ruling should never have even been made.
The New York Times and other media outlets have reported that prior to the Court’s decision, the infamous Koch brothers - oil magnates, free market fundamentalists, and Citizens United beneficiaries – paid for Justices Thomas and Scalia to appear as featured guests at secretive political strategy meetings.
Your help today can make sure this egregious conflict of interest doesn’t stand.
Thomas and Scalia should have recused themselves from the case...but they didn't, and we've already seen the results. Corporations poured money into the 2010 elections at unprecedented levels. A wave of politicians were installed in office who are now hard at work sweetening the pot for the wealthiest corporations at the expense of working Americans, people's health, our environment and our kids' education.
Support Corporate Accountability International in the struggle to restore our democracy by making sure our votes and our rights cannot be bought and sold by the highest bidder.
We've partnered with The Story of Stuff, Common Cause, and other allies to spread the word and reach millions. Already, tens of thousands of people have sent a message calling on the Department of Justice to investigate this conflict of interest.
We have their ear, but now we need to make sure they take action.
When you give even $25 today you'll help ratchet up pressure on Attorney General Holder to investigate Scalia and Thomas's Koch brothers connection.
Thank you for your partnership in making this possible. Together we can deepen the impact of this critical call to action and make sure corporations no longer hold sway over our highest courts and our democracy.
